Physical Science
Course Description for Physical Science:
Recommended for students in 9th grade.
This class presents a solid introduction to chemistry and physics, the building blocks of science. The topics of measurement and the scientific method are emphasized throughout the course. The connection between science and mathematics is underscored by solving application problems.
Classes consist of both lecture and lab experiments. Students take quizzes and exams outside of class in study periods.
Students complete an independent project on a Physical Science topic. The project includes: writing a two-page research paper; designing and implementing an experiment using the scientific method; and giving a presentation at the end of the year.

- Parents will help students use the course syllabus to complete assignments on time.
- Parents will be responsible for getting students to ARCHES on time.
- Parents will provide notice of all absences, and will help students complete work that they miss when absent.
- Students will be in their seats and ready to start work when class begins.
- Students will bring all required materials to each class.
- Students will actively participate in group work, labs and discussion.
- Students will be instructed in lab safety procedures and will be responsible for using all equipment and supplies safely.
- Students will take quizzes and tests in an outside study period at ARCHES.
Prerequisites:
- Grammar/Writing or ability to take lecture notes and write a two-page research paper.
- Students should take Algebra I or higher (Geometry or Algebra II) while enrolled in Physical Science.
