Minimum Expectations:
- Parents will assume all responsibility for making sure reading assignments are done on time.
- Additional assignments (oral or written) will be given each semester. Completed assignments must be turned in on the deadlines given by the tutor.
- Parents must help their students edit all writing assignments. Guidelines are given in the writer’s checklist that each student will receive. Elements of Grammar by Strunk and White is a valuable resource to assist you with this.
- Students will attend class regularly and participate in the discussion. Prior notice of all absences is required.
- Quizzes are not an optional part of the class. Students will be quizzed periodically on the material covered in the assigned reading.
- In order for this class to have full credit value, it is highly recommended that parents provide additional related learning experiences outside of this class.
American Government Enrichment Suggestions:
- Begin a timeline to use throughout your study of history and literature in ARCHES classes.
- Do volunteer work on a political campaign.
- Make a chart comparing local candidate’s positions on topics that are important to you.
- Find out where your polling place is. How do you vote with an absentee ballot? How do you register to vote?
- See local government in action. Visit the state capitol, attend a city council meeting, etc.
