Advanced Mathematics
Course Expectations for Advanced Mathematics:
Recommended for students in 9th-12th grade.
Prepare your students for future success in calculus, chemistry, physics, and social sciences! The 125 incremental Saxon Advanced Mathematics lessons provide in-depth coverage of trigonometry, logarithms, analytic geometry, and upper-level algebraic concepts. Includes continued practice of intermediate algebraic concepts and trigonometry introduced in Algebra 2 and features new lessons on functions, matrices, statistics, and the graphing calculator.
Required tests will be given every month with quizzes in between. Grades will be issued each semester based on class participation, homework, quizzes, and test scores. Students must bring a Texas Instruments either a T1-83 or T1-84 graphing calculator to this class.
Minimum Expectations:
• Parents will assume all responsibility for making sure homework assignments are done on time and
turned into the tutor when requested.
• Using the solutions manual, parents must help their child correct each assignment and sign the
completed work before it is turned in at class time.
• Students will attend class regularly and participate in the discussion. Prior notice of all absences is
required.
• All homework from missed classes must be turned in as soon as the student returns to class.
• Tests are not an optional part of the class. There will be regular testing and a final exam at
the end of each semester.
• Periodically, in-class enrichment activities are assigned. Participation in these assignments is not
optional.
• In order for this class to have full credit value, it is highly recommended that parents provide
additional related learning experiences outside of this class.
Mathematics Enrichment Suggestions:
Students will benefit from a DAILY review of the concepts being studied.
Struggling students should supplement the assigned work with additional problems.
ARCHES tutorial-based classes are designed to supplement course work being done in home schools,
thereby following the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in proclaiming parents as the primary
educators of their children.
Prerequisite: Algebra II (Geometry is recommended, but not required.)
