Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology
Course Expectations for Anatomy & Physiology:
Recommended for students in 9th-12th grade.
In this dynamic Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology course, students will not only begin to grasp the intricate working of their bodies, but also learn of the wonders of the human body, designed by our Creator and loving Father. Nothing else is quite like it. The body is delicate yet powerful - incredibly complex but at times amazingly simple. Students will explore the structure, function and regulation of the body in detail. Although the world insists that our bodies are merely the result of time and chance, as students examine the human body closely, they will see that it cannot be an accident. It can only be the product of a Master Designer.
We’ll learn about numerous careers in the medical fields. And when possible, we’ll include hands-on learning, such as taking blood pressures and using a cardiologist’s stethoscope to listen to high (> 100) and low (< 45) heart rates ("tachycardia" and "bradycardia"), heart valves, an arrhythmia, as well as lung sounds and abdominal sounds. Lifelong practical use of the learned information will be emphasized.
Minimum Expectations:
ARCHES tutorial-based classes are designed to supplement course work being done in home schools, thereby following the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in proclaiming parents as the primary educators of their children.
Prerequisite: At least one year of basic life science, basic note taking. Prerequisites and age requirement waivers given only with approval of tutor and administrator.

- Parents will be responsible for ensuring that all reading assignments are completed on time.
- Parents must sign the student notebook for each chapter assigned. Parents will need to verify that their child has completed all necessary homework.
- Students must attend class regularly and participate in classroom discussion.
- Quizzes and tests will be administered to check comprehension of all topics covered.
- Each student must have their own textbook, and notebook or three ring binder with loose leaf paper.
