Earth Science
Course Description for Earth Science:
Earth Science gives students an appreciation of the amazing world God created. A basic understanding of Earth Science is vital for citizens to make informed decisions on scientific matters. Studying Earth Science also gives students a sound foundation to build on as they move into higher-level science classes.
This course covers all four branches of Earth Science: geology, oceanography, meteorology and astronomy. There is a special focus on Minnesota's geology, so students acquire a solid background of Minnesota’s geological history. Classes consist of both lecture and lab experiments. Students take quizzes and exams outside of class in study periods.
Students complete an independent project on an Earth Science topic. The project includes writing a two-page research paper, designing a hands-on project, and giving a presentation at the end of the year.
