Religion
Course Description for Religion
See how the goodness, truth, and beauty of the teachings of the Catholic faith fit together to make a cohesive whole that has been passed down throughout the ages. Learn the why's behind the teachings, and come to understand and love our faith more deeply. Discussion will be a main element of the class time, and students will be strongly encouraged ask questions as we learn to think more deeply about our faith.
Minimum Expectations:
• Parents will assume all responsibility for making sure reading assignments are done on time.
• Additional assignments (oral or written) will be given each semester. Completed assignments must
be turned in on the deadlines given by the tutor.
• Parents must help their students edit all writing assignments. Guidelines are given in the writer’s
checklist that each student will receive. Elements of Grammar by Strunk and White is a valuable
resource to assist you with this.
• Students will attend class regularly and participate in the discussion. Prior notice of all absences is
required.
• Quizzes are not an optional part of the class. Students will be quizzed periodically on the material
covered in the assigned reading.
• In order for this class to have full credit value, it is highly recommended that parents provide
additional related learning experiences outside of this class.
Religion Enrichment Suggestions:
• A casual daily study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church
• Daily Scripture reading
• Involve your child in any help around your parish, such as serving at Mass, helping in the sacristy,
or even office work.
• Exposure to great Catholic art, even visiting the Cathedral, visiting a local nursing home,
volunteering for the loaves and fishes programs, or helping at a local pro-life pregnancy counseling
center are also ways to make the faith come to life.
ARCHES tutorial based classes are designed to supplement course work being done in home schools,
thereby following the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in proclaiming parents as the primary
educators of their children.
Recommended for students in 7th-10th grade.
