Environmental Science
Course Expectations for Environmental Science:
The course of Environmental Science will enable students to view the world around them with awe and engage them as stewards of the blessings the Lord has bestowed on them. This class presents ecological concepts and principles of environmental science. It will include environmental impacts and management, conservation and political processes. Students will be completing field studies of Minnesota plants and wildlife.
Plant specimens will be collected, and animal specimens will be dissected. Classes will consist of lecture, group activities, and discussion. Students will be giving oral presentations and completing an independent research project on an environmental topic. The project will include writing a research paper, designing a service project, and giving a presentation at the end of the year. Students should plan to be outside during class time.
Minimum Expectations:
Prerequisite: Recommended for students in 9-12th grade. At least one year of basic life science, basic note taking. Prerequisites and age requirement waivers given only with approval of tutor and administrator.

Minimum Expectations:
- Parents will be responsible for ensuring that all reading assignments are completed on time.
- Parents must sign the student notebook for each chapter assigned. Parents will need to verify that their child has carefully outlined the chapter and completed all necessary end of chapter questions.
- Parents are required to review and sign each completed current event article/homework assignments.
- Students must attend class regularly and participate in labs and discussion.
- Field trips to nearby parks or nature reserves during class time will be required. Parent-signed permission slips for tutor-led transportation will be mandatory.
- Quizzes and tests will be administered to check comprehension of all topics covered.
- Each student must have their own three ring notebook with loose leaf paper, textbook, and sketch book.
- Students who wish to prepare for the Environmental Science DSST and receive college credit, must complete additional study, arrange for testing and pay necessary fees.
