Description
ARCHES, a non-profit organization, provides standard and honors classes to students in grades 7-12. We provide affordable education in a classical, great books-based, Roman Catholic curriculum. ARCHES started in 1995 as a literature discussion class. Since then, we have grown to 60 students who meet one, two, or three days a week, participating in a wide variety of classes.
We offer classes in a variety of subjects: Art, Mathematics, Languages, Literature, History, Science, and more, with classes being added every year. All classes offer challenging learning experiences for students in grades 7-12. ARCHES tutorial-based classes are designed to supplement course work being done in home schools, thereby following the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in proclaiming parents to be the primary educators of their children.
Mission Statement
ARCHES strives to follow the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in proclaiming parents to be the primary educators of their children. We, as educators, also understand it to be more enriching to conduct some classes in a group setting. Our classes are tutorial-based. Parents have the responsibility for making sure the students take the appropriate classes, participate fully in those classes, complete assigned homework, papers, tests, and ultimately learn the material. This includes giving the final grades and assigning the course credits to their children. The tutors facilitate education and do not replace the parents.

Why ARCHES?
  • We have observed that many students in kindergarten through 6th grade learn perfectly well working only with their parents and siblings. By the time students reach the teen years (7th through 12th grades), many desire peer interaction and discussion of ideas and concepts.
  • In addition, some academic subjects at this level go beyond the expertise of parents and siblings.
  • We model our classes after a classical curriculum, and offer challenging learning experiences for students in grades 7-12.
  • ARCHES is not a school. We serve only to organize classes as a supplement to individual home study programs.
  • It is essential, in our program, for parents to continue teaching and supervising study in order for students to fulfill credit requirements.
  • We base our courses on the honor system. We require students to complete the homework our tutors assign and assume, on their honor, that they actually complete the homework themselves, to the best of their abilities.
  • It is the parents' responsibility to make sure their students complete the work, and do so to the best of the student's ability.

Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom,
pray for us.
