Grammar II
Course Expectations for Grammar II:
Grammar II meets two times per week and is a full year course. Students will gain a more in-depth understanding of the English language. In this class, students will review the memorization lists from Grammar I. We will take the basics and work on more complex sentence structures including participles, gerunds, and infinitive phrases and clauses. Here they will master the skills required to help them write better. More intricate diagramming will help students grasp the extended family of each part of speech.
Minimum Expectations:
• Parents are expected to be fully engaged in the process of their child's comprehending and practicing the grammatical concepts taught in this class.
• Parents will assume all responsibility for making sure homework assignments are done on time.
• There will be a required independent study component to this class which makes up for the lack of classroom time.
• Students will attend class regularly and participate in the discussion. Prior notice of all absences is required.
• Quizzes and tests are not an optional part of the class. Students will be quizzed periodically on the material covered in the assigned reading.
• In order for this class to have full credit value, it is highly recommended that parents provide additional related learning experiences outside of this class.
Enrichment Suggestions:
• Daily practice of the concepts learned in class
• Use your skills to help younger siblings or other students edit their written work.
• Additional personal writing (journaling, letters, etc.)
There are constant mistakes in print. Get in the habit of editing items you read.
Recommended for students in 8th or 9th grade.
ARCHES tutorial-based classes are designed to supplement course work being done in home schools, thereby following the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church in proclaiming parents as the primary educators of their children.
Prerequisite: Grammar I or equivalent placement (test given this summer)
