Composition I
Course Expectations for Composition I:
Composition I meets two days per week and is a full year course. Using Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) materials, students will study stylistic techniques, note-taking, five-paragraph essays, creative non-fiction, and write four papers (1-2 pages) in length. One-on-one conferences with tutor provided on each paper. Opportunity to share writing in class, group activities, and basic speech skills are covered. Recommended to take the Composition I class along with the Literature I class as the class occasionally uses the Literature I books to look for examples of stylistic techniques.
Recommended for students in 7th and 8 grade.
Prerequisite: Students must be familiar with the fundamentals of paragraphing and have adequate grammar skills.
Corequisite: Recommended to enroll in Literature I.
