Catholic Apologetics (spring semester)
Course Expectations for Introduction to Catholic Apologetics
Recommended for students in 8th-12th grade.
The goals for students of this class are to be able to explain and defend the Eucharist, Mary, the papacy, confessing to a priest, Purgatory, and many other Catholic beliefs. They'll learn about the End Times and what Catholics believe about the Second Coming, the Rapture, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, and Indulgences. They'll have the answers to questions about abortion, contraception, euthanasia, and cloning. And they'll also be able to answer Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Atheists, New Agers, and Muslims. Sources for this knowledge will include not only the required booklet set below, but also Catholic apologetics books dating as far back as 1904, available from the tutor.
Students can expect both written exams as well as:

- Mid-semester: Choosing an additional topic, research it, and provide a 15-minute presentation to the class on that topic. Topics would be approved by me, and could include things such as evolution vs creation (I have several books on this), faith of the early fathers (I have books on this), inaccuracies (lies?) about Catholic history, and so on.
- End of semester: Participate in an in-class debate defending a particular topic against its Protestant counterpart, knowing their topic in advance.
